Projects at Rotary Club of Butabika Royals

Rotary Club of Butabika Royals is actively involved in a wide array of projects that focus on improving the quality of life for communities in Uganda, with a special emphasis on mental health, education, and healthcare. Our projects are designed to create sustainable change, aligning with Rotary’s areas of focus while addressing pressing local needs. Here is a snapshot of some of the key initiatives we are proud to spearhead:

Social Welfare – Donation of food and other essentials to Kirombe Community in Butabika

The Rotary Club of Butabika Royals carried out a social welfare initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable households within the Kirombe Community in Butabika. Through this project, the club donated food and essential supplies to families in need, strengthening our bond with the community and offering much-needed relief during challenging times. This act of service reflected the club’s commitment to uplifting underserved communities through direct, impactful interventions.

Free Medical Camp in Kapir, Ngora District 

The Rotary Club of Butabika Royals, alongside various partners, participated in a successful two-day medical camp at Kapir Health Centre III, Ngora District, from September 20-21, 2024. This initiative was part of the 70th-anniversary celebrations of Rotary Club of Kampala. The camp aimed to address key health challenges in the community, with a special focus on mental health services.

More than 3,775 members of Kapir community and beyond benefited from the free medical health camp. The Mental Health Clinic particulary handled over 340 people receiving ;

  • Mental health awareness sessions.
  • Screenings for common mental health conditions.
  • One-on-one counseling sessions.
  • Referrals to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital for advanced care.

Education and Literacy Initiatives

Education is vital to breaking the cycle of poverty, and Rotary Club of Butabika Royals is committed to enhancing educational opportunities for children and young adults. We support schools by providing learning materials, renovating classrooms, and organizing literacy campaigns. Additionally, we offer career guidance and mentorship to help students achieve their full potential.

Key Activities:

  • Donation of books and educational materials to schools.
  • Career guidance and mentorship programs.
  • Infrastructure improvements, including classroom renovations and school supplies.
  • Digital literacy training in partnership with Digital Communities.


Impact: Our initiatives have improved learning environments for thousands of students and empowered young people with the skills and resources they need to thrive.

Support to Butabika National Referral Hospital 

ATC Uganda, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Butabika Royals, has established a Digital Community—a fully equipped ICT lab featuring 20 computers, complimentary internet access, and a dedicated instructor.

We are working with the hospital to design programs for the ICT lab. This project is part of our drive to support post recovery of patients under the occupational therapy unit.

5. Environmental Conservation and Sustainability

Rotary Club of Butabika Royals is committed to protecting the environment through tree-planting campaigns and promoting renewable energy. We engage communities in activities that contribute to environmental sustainability and fight climate change.

Key Activities:

  • Annual tree-planting drives, with a focus on indigenous species.
  • Promotion of renewable energy solutions, such as solar energy in schools and health centers.
  • Environmental conservation workshops and education programs.


Impact: These efforts contribute to Uganda’s reforestation goals and foster environmental stewardship among community members, helping reduce carbon footprints and promote sustainable living.

6. Youth Empowerment and Vocational Training

Empowering young people with skills and opportunities is critical to Uganda’s future. We run various youth development programs that focus on vocational training, entrepreneurship, and leadership development. Our aim is to provide youth with the skills they need to secure employment or start their own businesses.

Key Activities:

  • Vocational training in areas such as tailoring, carpentry, and ICT.
  • Entrepreneurship workshops for young adults.
  • Leadership training programs for youth in communities and schools.


Impact: By equipping young people with practical skills and entrepreneurial knowledge, we help reduce unemployment and foster economic development.

Mental Health Awareness Campaign in partnership with Butabika Hospital

The Rotary Club of Butabika Royals, in collaboration with with Butabika National Referral Mental Health Hospital  and Rotaract Club of Butabika Royals held a public awareness campaign on 09th December  2023 aimed at transforming the landscape of mental health in Uganda.  .

The Campaign was held to create awareness on mental health care and related issues among community leaders, within Butabika, Kinawataka and Luzira Communities, who would in turn, disseminate appropriate information on mental health care within their communities. It was attended by the Mayor of Nakawa Division, Police Officers, Head teachers, Prison Staff, Councilors, Village Health Teams, Hospital Staff.

As part of efforts to enhance road safety in the roads around Butabika village, RC Butabika in partnership with Rotaract Club of Butabkia Royals painted all the humps and a zebra crossing at Butabika National Referral hospital.
